PACKING CLOTHES: CREASE-FREE AND COMPACT
Short answer: hang in wardrobe boxes or under a clean bin bag, roll folded clothing, put bulky items in vacuum bags. Thin out your wardrobe first — less to take = fewer boxes. For the broader packing method: see the packing guide.

1. THIN OUT YOUR WARDROBE FIRST
Move = ideal moment to go through your wardrobe critically. Rule of thumb: haven't worn something in a year? It can go. See our decluttering guide for the method. Worn-out clothing? Hand it in separately at the textile container (Milieu Centraal).
2. HANGING OR ROLLED
Hanging: wardrobe box or clean bin bag over the hangers. Folded: roll it — creases less than folding. That way you keep hanging clothes crease-free and fit more in the same box.
3. SAVE SPACE WITH VACUUM BAGS
Vacuum bags: fraction of the volume for duvets, winter coats, thick jumpers. Exception: no leather, fur or wool in long-term storage — those materials need to breathe.
4. DRAWERS, SHOES & ACCESSORIES
Light clothing: stays in the drawers + wrap them in film. Shoes separately with paper inside (keeps shape). Jewellery, belts and ties in separate bags.
SMART TRICKS
Tricks that make the difference: roll clothes instead of folding, clean bin bag over hangers as free garment cover, soft clothing as cushioning between fragile items or filler for gaps. Label per season.

STORING CLOTHING SAFELY
Is your clothing going into storage for a while? Wash and dry everything fully, keep it dry and climate-controlled, label per season. For longer storage, damp is textile's biggest enemy.

HOW DO I PREVENT CREASES?
Wardrobe box for hanging clothes + what you fold is better rolled. Rolled T-shirts and jumpers crease far less than folded ones.
CAN CLOTHES GO IN BIN BAGS?
Yes — as long as bags are clean and not for long-term storage. Pull them over hangers as a free garment cover, or fill with light clothing. Textile breathes poorly in plastic — so only short-term.
HOW DO I STORE WINTER CLOTHING?
Wash + dry fully, then store in a dry/climate-controlled space, labelled per season. Vacuum bags for bulky items — just not for leather jackets and wool.
ARE VACUUM BAGS SMART?
Ideal for cotton/synthetic clothing and duvets — huge space saving. Avoid for leather, fur and wool in long-term storage: can be damaged if kept compressed for long.
