Your home sells faster when it looks calm. A half-full garage of moving boxes, a guest room used as a dump zone, or a living room with too much furniture — buyers see clutter instead of possibilities. What to remove:

• Furniture from the guest room or spare room
• Sports and hobby gear (bike, skis, kayak)
• Seasonal items (Christmas decorations, garden furniture)
• Personal photos and highly specific decor (buyers need to imagine themselves in the space)

Tip: use this moment to also declutter — not everything needs to move to the new place. Viewings feel more spacious and neutral.

Keys don't always line up. Your old house has to be empty on a fixed date, your new place isn't ready until a week or two later — and your belongings need to go somewhere in the meantime. What a short storage period prevents:

Tip: combine it with your moving planning — schedule pickup the day before handover of your old home, and return the day after keys to the new one. No interim logistics.
