What do you want to know about the security package?

The Security Package gives continuous coverage from the moment we collect your belongings until they're delivered back home. Covered: fire, water and storm damage while in our climate-controlled hub, theft and vandalism (rare thanks to 24/7 camera surveillance, alarm and limited access), damage during transport (loading, driving, unloading), and damage caused by Inbox staff. Coverage applies only to items inside the sealed unit — items you handle yourself in between fall outside. No separate forms at booking, no separate application, no fine print: the premium shows up directly in your calculator price. You choose the insured amount yourself between €2,000 and €10,000; for higher amounts you request a tailored policy via our advisors.

Yes, provided your own policy covers storage at an external location. Standard home contents policies are usually built for your home address and exclude external locations — or cover only during a short-term move. Our tip: call your insurer in advance and ask for written confirmation that storage at an external location for an indefinite period is covered. Got the green light? Upload your policy in your account — we automatically deduct the Security Package fee. For business customers, transport and storage cover is often already included in a business policy; double-check with your broker. If it later turns out your policy doesn't cover after all at the moment of damage, no problem — you can switch to the Security Package at any moment via your customer portal.

The premium depends on the insured amount you choose, between €2,000 and €10,000 of contents value. Premiums range from €16 per month at the lowest cover to €50 per month at the highest standard cover. For insured amounts above €10,000 you request a tailored policy via our advisors. The monthly amount appears directly in the price calculation via our online calculator — transparent, no hidden costs, no separate charge afterwards. You can adjust the insured amount during storage (up or down); the premium moves with it automatically so you never pay too much or too little. No separate deposit, no admin fees, no setup costs. When your storage contract ends, the Security Package ends automatically.

Not covered: prohibited goods, items over €500 per piece or €2,500 total not declared in advance, damage from wear or poor condition, and damage from incorrect packing. Prohibited goods (see /verboden-goederen) automatically fall outside coverage. Items not declared in advance as special or valuable — anything over €500 per item or €2,500 in total — aren't covered; that's why we ask you to flag these at booking. Damage from wear and tear, age or poor condition of the item itself falls outside coverage, as does damage from incorrect packing (see /verpakinstructies for guidelines). Valuable documents like passports and personal certificates we recommend you keep yourself instead of storing. Live animals, plants and food are prohibited goods anyway. Not sure about a specific item or its value? Mention it at booking — our advisors check it with you and adjust your insured amount if needed.

Your entire household sits temporarily in one place; we think it matters that you know what's covered, how it works, and what to expect if something does go wrong. Here we explain why storage insurance is different from your standard contents policy, what the Security Package covers exactly, and how damage handling works with us — honest, no jargon, in plain language.

Why insure your storage?

With storage 30-100% of your household sits temporarily in one place. Risks are small — our climate-controlled hub has 24/7 camera surveillance, only our own staff has access, and we run fire protection and water detection — but the impact when something happens is large. Your own contents policy often only covers your home address, so without additional cover the risk sits entirely with you. At Inbox coverage simply belongs with it: you choose between two options. The Security Package: arranged in one step at booking, immediately visible in your calculator price, automatically extended while your storage runs. Or your own policy: upload your policy document in your account after written confirmation from your insurer that external storage is covered. With every Inbox booking coverage is mandatory — you decide which option fits best, both options end automatically when your contract ends.

Own policy or Security Package?

A standard contents policy is built for your home address, and that's usually where it stops. External locations (like our storage hub) often fall outside coverage — or only limited, e.g. maximum 6 months temporary or only during a move. The Security Package is specifically designed for the storage context: transport and storage covered together, external location included as standard, no time limit while your contract runs. Risk of using your own policy: if it turns out coverage doesn't apply at the moment of damage, you face unpleasant surprises. Recommendation: call your insurer before booking and ask whether your policy covers storage at an external location for an indefinite period — and request written confirmation. Don't get full cover? Add the Security Package. If you have both, we won't pay out compensation twice — that's legally regulated in insurance.

What we do if damage happens

Damage is unpleasant, but with us the process is practical and short. Reporting goes via the customer portal: short description plus photos, maximum 5 minutes of work. We get in touch within 2 business days. Got the Security Package? We handle settlement directly with our insurer; you don't need to call the insurance company yourself, fill out forms or wait on hold. Got your own policy? You file with your own insurer; we provide supporting evidence such as address, security data, timestamped photos and driver testimony. Compensation is based on what was declared at booking and the evidence provided. No long forms, no phone queues, no jargon. In case of doubt or disputes we can mediate between customer and insurer to keep things moving. Settlement typically within 2 to 4 weeks for standard claims.
